A New Generation for Change

Each portrait in this photo book is supported by an interview with a London art student, discussing their past school experience and how the current education system can be reshaped and improved to support all kinds of learners and creatives. By interviewing them through short and intimate conversations, I aimed to bring the necessary systematic changes in education to the surface.

Freire’s (1970) concept of the ‘banking’ system used in schools, where pupils are forced to memorise, rather than understand their studies, is where the issue stems for a lot of the interviewies in this book. Each of these young people’s experiences are different, yet a lot of their struggles with the rigidity of school systems when it comes to creativity are similar.
